In the last couple weeks left in the season, John Carrick had taken team photos and they were ready for pickup at Joe’s last friday. For anyone who didn’t get a chance to pick it up then, stop by the house to pickup your team photo.

The championship match between Joe Tomato’s (Red) and Joe Tomato’s (Black) turned out to be a great match, ending in regular time 0-0. This forced an extra 10 minutes which still didn’t produce a goal, pushing the game to shoot-outs. The first four shooters on each team hit the back of the net, and it wasn’t until Joe’s (Black) fifth shooter missed, that Joe’s (Red) had a chance to score, which they did, winning the league playoffs.

The match that was scheduled between Peeler Cider and Joe Tomatoes Black on July 27th will occur at 7:45 on August 10th. It will be held on Field 5.

This means both teams will be playing back to back matches, I tried to get field time during other days in the week, but to no avail.

Team photos will be taken on August 10th. Please make sure you look your best as these are the photos families cherish for years down the road.

The photos for the 6:30 and 7:45 games will be taken after their games.

The photos for the 9:00 game will be taken before their game (please try and arrive 15 minutes early so we have enough light)

Joe Tomato’s Restaurant will be opening an hour early at 10am for the World Cup starting Friday, June 11th.  All games will be on our big screen and volume will be provided on the bar side.

We are able to serve beer one hour earlier (10am) during the World Cup.

Just a friendly reminder of the basic rules and player conduct we expect everyone to follow:

• No Slide Tackling (this includes the keeper)
• Respect ALL players / referees, treat your teammates and opponents as you would like to be treated.
• No foul language towards players / referees / spectators
• Play for the “Fun of it” Remember, it’s just a game,  lets take it easy out there.

Anyone who does not abide by the following rules could result in removal from the league.

Due to players being added, and a few being removed, we’ve been forced to make some moves between the teams to help keep an even balance. Any player that has been transferred to another team will be contacted via phone and/or email and arrangements for a new uniform will be made.

Players should all receive a Loyalty Card within the first couple weeks of scheduled games, it will allow them to earn points when they come to Joe’s any day of the week.

On Tuesdays, all adult rec league soccer players receive triple points on their Joe Tomato’s Loyalty Cards (equivalent to a 15% discount)  Also, we have 1/2 price wings every Tuesday after 8pm as well as 1/2 price on selected appetizers after 8pm.

On May 18th there will be 3 “scrimmage” games (6:30, 7:30 and 8:30 start times – check below after reading), these are not the final teams, just initial “get together” matches to help us determine player skill levels and team rosters.

Please look below to determine when you should arrive.

Please bring either a Light (white) or Dark coloured shirt depending on the team you’ve been assigned.

The week after (May 25th) will be the start of the regular season, uniforms will be provided then, stay posted for more details.

The games will all be held on Field 3 – which is the field with the lights.

The Owen Sound Men’s Competitive Soccer teams will be holding try-outs starting next week.

Both teams play in the York Region Soccer League

The Owen Sound Strikers play in the First Division of the YRSL. Last season, they were the Playoff Champions of that division.

Owen Sound United play in the Premier Division of the YRSL. Last season, they were the Regular Season Champions of that division.

The two teams are affiliated this season, and will be working together in terms of practices, player call ups, etc.

The try-out dates are:

• Tuesday April 20… 6:30 pm Victoria Park
• Saturday April 24… 5pm Victoria Park
• Tuesday April 27… 6:30 pm Victoria Park
• Saturday May 1… 5pm Victoria Park

Colin Hodson returns as Head Coach of United. Rob Blundell will be the Assistant Coach.

Andy Harrington has stepped down as Coach of the Strikers and we are in discussions with another potential new Head Coach. Rob Leonard has agreed to be an Assistant Coach for the Strikers, and Harry Huff will be the teams Manager.

If anyone is interested in Indoor soccer, print off the registration form located under “Links / Downloads” in the right column and bring your payment and form to the game. The sooner we receive the registrations, the sooner we’ll get the league underway.
